Cameron Diaz was born in San Diego California, in August 30, 1972. She became well known as an actress in the 1990s when she starred in There’s Something About Mary, My Best Friend’s Wedding and The Mask. Other films that have also made her famous and highly respected as an actress include: Bad Teacher, the Green Hornet, The Holiday, and the Shrek Series. She has received various Golden Globe nominations for her roles in Gangs in New York, Vanilla Sky, Being John Malkovich and There’s Something About Mary.
Diaz has four elder sisters. She is of mixed origin where her father is Cuban and her mother half English and German. Cameron attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. She began modeling when she was 16 years old under the Elite Model Management Agency. In the next few years, she worked as a model for various companies such as Levi’s and Calvin Klein. She appeared on the front cover of Seventeen magazine in 1990 at the age of 17.
When she was 19 years old, she appeared in the film She’s No Angel and later on auditioned for the film The Mask. She was able to audition for this movie thanks to a recommendation she got from her agent at Elite modeling agency. At this time Cameron did not have acting lessons and had to take them prior to shooting the film. For the next three years, Cameron avoided acting in large studio films. She once broke her hand while training for the film Mortal Kombat and had to resign from her role.
She has won various awards for the best supporting actress in various films in 2001 such as American Film Institute Awards, Critic’s Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and the Golden Globe Awards. In 2010, she was ranked by Forbes magazine as the 60th wealthiest Hispanic female celebrity. It is that very year that she did a voice over for Princess Fiona for the Shrek series.
