Jackie Cleric, who was running the Moulin Rouge in Paris for more than 50 years and also managed to revive the famous revues of plumed can-can dancers, passed away at the age of 83. The official statement of his death was released on Monday.
The Moulin Rouge had started becoming identical with these can-can dancers and their position was cemented when the 2001 movie with the same name was released.
It was founded in 1889 and was initially a place where the aristocracy got together with the working class. Today, it is one of the leading tourist attractions in Paris.
Clerico was suffering from Cancer and died on Sunday in a hospital at Neuilly.
